Cambodian Vovinam Athletes Grab More Gold Medals

Cambodian Vovinam athletes this afternoon brought more gold medals to the nation, at the 32nd SEA Games at the Chroy Changvar International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh.

Mr. Eh Virekkaamchhit Phouthong , a gold medalist in the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam in 2022, won a gold medal after defeating his Thai counterpart Mr. Chainarong Yawanophat 4-3, while Mr. Ly Boramy, who already earned a gold medal in Men's Individual Self Defance Show this morning, won another gold medal in Men's Knife Show.

Besides, Met Sary, Ny Tiza, Men Sokvicheka, and Im Laingchhong clinched a gold medal in men’s team.

Cambodia has so far grabbed 13 gold medals in Kun Bokator, Jiu-Jitsu, Aquathlon, Vovinam, Ouk Chaktrang (Chess), Soft Tennis, and E-Sports, making the Kingdom temporarily at the top of the Medal Table.

Some 25 sports competitions are on today's programme – Boxing, Football, Kun Khmer, Kun Bokator, Pencak Silat, Sailing, Hockey, Volleyball, Jiu-Jitsu, Athletics, Obstacle Race, Triathlon, Cricket, Ouk Chaktrang (Chess), E-sports, Karate, Soft Tennis, Petanque, Vovinam, Swimming, Mountain Bike, Basketball, Sepak Takraw, and Teqball.

Regional athletes are set to compete in 37 sport with 581 events – 304 for men, 229 for women and 48 mixed – at the SEA Games 2023 held in Cambodia from May 5 to 17.
