Phnom penh: The 2025 National Mountaineering Championship has been successfully concluded after a three-day competition process in Phnom Penh. The closing ceremony of the competition took place at Le Club in Phnom Penh under the presidency of H.E. Bou Chumserey, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Laing Ona, President of the Climbing and Hiking Federation of Cambodia, praised the Competition Organising Committee and athletes for their cooperation, ensuring the competition ran smoothly and fairly. He noted that this effort will enable the federation to select the best players for future international sporting events.
H.E. Bou Chumserey acknowledged the contributions of the federation's president, members, coach, judges, arbitrators, and players in promoting the development of this Olympic sport in Cambodia. He highlighted that the tournament aimed to identify top competitors for upcoming international sports events, particularly the Asian Youth Games, which Cambodia is set to host in 2029.
The championship featured 61 mountain climbers, including 18 females, from various clubs. Winners were selected across 17 disciplines, such as Speed, which was divided into four subcategories with age limits from 13 years and under to 20 years and up. The Top Rope and Lead categories had six divisions with similar age restrictions, while the Boulder discipline catered to players aged from 14 years and under to 20 years and up.
