A Senior Foreign Official Visits MGIMO University of Russian Foreign Ministry

H.E. Dr. UN Kheang, Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), paid an official visit to MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation from May 11 to 18, 2024. During the visit, H.E. Dr. UN Kheang met with the management team of MGIMO led by Dr. Andrey Baykov, MGIMO Vice Rector for Research Affairs, said a news release from MFAIC. According to the source, in the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation between the National Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations (NIDIR) and MGIMO on short-term training for Cambodian diplomats, exchange of researchers/professors, and holding of public lectures by Russian diplomats and scholars at NIDIR. They also discussed the scholarships available for Cambodian students to study at MGIMO. Besides, H.E. Dr. UN Kheang participated in the Awarding Ceremony of Royal Order of the Sahametrei Officer to H.E. Dr. Antatoly Torkunov, MGIMO Rector, for his decades-long contrib ution to the field of education in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Award was presented by H.E. PICHKHUN Panha, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the Russian Federation. On the occasion, H.E. Dr. UN Kheang exchanged views with H.E. Dr. Antatoly Torkunov on a wide range of issues spanning from MGIMO's contribution to human resource development in Cambodia, action plan for the vision set in the MoU between NIDIR and MGIMO, and H.E. Dr. Torkunov's interest in visiting NIDIR in the future. H.E. Dr. UN Kheang also attended two additional events. First, the MoU Exchange Ceremony between NIDIR and MGIMO, and Second, H.E. Dr. UN Kheang presented a keynote speech entitled 'Cambodia's Role in ASEAN' at the ASEAN (and EAS) Model Opening Ceremony organised by the ASEAN Centre of MGIMO University.
