Almost 200 Countries to Attend Siem Reap Angkor Summit on “a Mine-Free World”

Nearly 200 countries will attend the Siem Reap Angkor Summit on "a Mine-Free World," to be hosted by Cambodia in November 2024.

The update was shared by H.E. Ly Thuch, First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), in a press conference here in Phnom Penh on Nov. 16.

Cambodia was elected as the president of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction, known as the Ottawa Treaty, which now has over 164 members, said H.E. Ly Thuch.

The CMAA's first vice president continued that the Ottawa Treaty not only helps free mines and ammunition but also prevents possible dangers to people caused by explosive remnants of war (ERW).

Cambodia has been appreciated for its success in mine clearance and war-ending efforts to bring the country peace and development, he added.
