Phnom penh: The barbed wire that was unlawfully placed by Thai forces in the Anseh area on August 4, 2025, has been removed, and the machinery used for its installation has been halted as of this afternoon. The update was provided by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia in a statement released this evening.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the removal of the barbed wire followed discussions and negotiations between Cambodian and Thai forces stationed in the Anseh area. These discussions were aimed at resolving the situation peacefully and ensuring the sovereignty of the area was respected.
The spokesperson emphasized that Anseh is within Cambodian sovereign territory and has been under the full control of the Cambodian armed forces since the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand came into effect at midnight on July 28, 2025. This agreement marked a significant step towards maintaining peace and stability in the region, and the removal of the barbed wire is seen as a positive outcome of continued diplomatic efforts.
