Phnom penh: The Royal Government of Cambodia has accused Thai military forces of targeting civilian infrastructure during their aggression, including schools, pagodas, gas stations, and residential areas.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, spoke at a press conference held at the Office of the Council of Ministers in Phnom Penh. She condemned the Thai military's actions, describing them as brutal and unlawful.
'Thai troops have deliberately shelled villages in Samrong town, Oddar Meanchey province, causing extensive damage to civilian property and infrastructure,' she stated. 'Their attacks have resulted in civilian casualties, including the elderly and children.'
Lt. Gen. Socheata highlighted the most serious incident as a strike on a primary school in Banteay Ampil district.
She reiterated Cambodia's strong condemnation of Thailand's use of cluster munitions, calling it a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
'Cambodia is the victim in this conflict, but we are not intimidated by threats from invaders,' she underlined. 'I want to remind the Thai aggressors: Cambodia will not retreat in the face of this aggression. On the contrary, our brave armed forces will continue to fight in every possible way to defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity.'
