Phnom Penh: On the first day of his official visit to Cambodia, H.E. Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Deputy Minister of National Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), engaged in bilateral talks with H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), at the RCAF headquarters.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen welcomed H.E. Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, acknowledging the visit as a sign of the strengthening relationship between Cambodia and Vietnam. He highlighted that the discussions would foster mutual trust and contribute to regional peace and stability.
H.E. Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong expressed satisfaction with the ongoing defence cooperation, citing intelligence sharing and reciprocal visits as key areas of collaboration. He also noted the successful efforts in handling cross-border issues and enhancing security.
Gratitude was extended by H.E. Sen. Lt. Gen. Cuong to the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence for their participation in Vietnam’s 50th anniversary celebrations of reunification. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation to safeguard national interests.
H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen reiterated the enduring friendship between the nations, expressing that no external forces could affect their partnership. He acknowledged Vietnam’s hospitality during recent celebrations and affirmed Cambodia’s commitment to existing defence agreements.
Future cooperation proposals were made by H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen, including delegation exchanges, expanded training, and joint operations. He underscored Cambodia’s commitment to a peaceful and cooperative border with Vietnam, aiming for continued development and friendship.
