Cambodia Arrests, Repatriates 6 Thais for Illegal Border Crossing

Phnom penh: Cambodian border authorities arrested six Thai nationals on July 15 evening for illegally entering Cambodian territory near Trapeang Thmey village, O' Sralao commune, Malai district, Banteay Meanchey province. During questioning by border protection police, the group admitted crossing into Banteay Meanchey province seeking employment. They cited severe economic hardship caused by border restrictions imposed by Thai authorities, which had eliminated local income opportunities in their communities.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, desperate to find work, the individuals reportedly forded border streams to enter Cambodia. Following their apprehension and processing, Cambodian authorities subsequently coordinated their repatriation to Thailand. The incident underscores ongoing economic pressures in border regions amid tightening cross-border movement controls.
