Phnom penh: Cambodia has called on the Thai authorities to exercise restraint and professionalism in their public communications, urging them to refrain from issuing unsubstantiated statements that could jeopardise fragile peace and bilateral relations.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the appeal was made by H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during a regular press briefing in Phnom Penh this afternoon. His remarks came in response to inflammatory and misleading remarks by a Thai military source publicly circulated on social media on Aug. 7, 2025.
He stressed that the allegations, which accuse Cambodia of engaging in so-called 'deceptive warfare,' are unfounded and counterproductive to ongoing efforts aimed at promoting peace, dialogue, and stability between the two nations.
'Cambodia categorically rejects these baseless accusations, which falsely portray Cambodia's commitment to peace, transparency, and respect of international law as actual manipulation,' he underlined.
H.E. Chum Sounry also emphasised that Cambodia has demonstrated a consistent and sincere commitment to peaceful dialogue, as evidenced by its active participation in the General Border Committee mechanism and close coordination with international partners.
'Accusing Cambodia of negotiating in bad faith is not only unjustified but undermines the spirit of cooperation,' the spokesperson said. 'Cambodia reaffirms its unwavering commitment to resolving all outstanding issues through peaceful means based on mutual respect, international law, and the principles of ASEAN.'
