Cambodia, China Continue Cooperation on Humanitarian Demining

The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) and a Chinese delegation discussed the progress of Cambodia's demining activities with support from China. H.E. Heng Ratana, CMAC Director General, hosted the discussion with Mr. Ma Shengkun, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Arms Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and Mr. CAO Xilin, Director General of Office Arms Control and International Military Cooperation of the Chinese Ministry of Defence, at CMAC headquarters on Jan. 15. The Chinese delegation appreciated the progress made and confirmed the government of China's stand to continue supporting humanitarian activities in Cambodia. They could feel the impact of the work in contributing to Cambodia's socio-economic development, peace, and prosperity. The government of China has awarded grant assistance to Cambodia for demining operations since 2018. The new phase of grant assistance worth more than US$14 million started from Mar. 2023 until Feb. 2026. So far, CMAC has freed 10,945 hectares of land from landmine danger and found and destroyed some 78,000 pieces of landmines and unexploded ordinances as the remnants of war.
