Phnom Penh: Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen recently conducted separate discussions with representatives from Australia and Nigeria to explore avenues for enhanced defence cooperation. These meetings took place on June 5 at the RCAF headquarters in Phnom Penh.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen expressed his appreciation to the Australian government for its past support through troop deployments that contributed to Cambodia's national unification and peace-building efforts in the early 1990s under the United Nations framework. He urged for strengthened cooperation in various areas including human resource training, exchange of exposure visits at different levels, sharing information on combating transnational crimes and terrorism, and collaboration in humanitarian and disaster relief efforts.
H.E. Bernard Philip, Australia's First Assistant Secretary for International Policy, commended the progress in defence cooperation between Australia and Cambodia, highlighting the sector's development within Cambodia.
During his meeting with Major General Razaq Kolawole Shittu, the Nigerian Military Advisor to Cambodia, H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen reiterated a mutual desire to enhance defence cooperation through the exchange of experience and knowledge between the two nations.
