Phnom penh: Cambodia is showcasing its growing international stature by hosting the 20th Asia Media Summit (AMS) and its related meetings in Siem Reap. Senior Cambodian Information official have expressed immense pride in the country's role, emphasising its commitment to fostering crucial dialogue on combating misinformation in the digital age.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the summit has drawn media professionals and AI technology experts from almost 40 countries, all converging to discuss collaborative strategies for addressing the pervasive issues of misinformation and disinformation. Speaking prior to the pre-summit workshops in Siem Reap city this morning, H.E. Kem Gunawadh, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Information, highlighted the strong international turnout as a testament to Cambodia's increasing trust and respect within the region.
"It is an honour for Cambodia to host the 20th Asia Media Summit and related meetings, with delegates from 37 countries joining us here in Siem Reap," said H.E. Kem Gunawadh. "This participation clearly demonstrates that Cambodia is a peaceful country capable of hosting international-level events. It also showcases the warm hospitality and friendliness of our people, who greet all guests with smiles, making them feel like part of one family."
He added that many participants, including first-time visitors to Cambodia, have praised the nation's beauty, the warmth of its people, and its genuine peace and stability. Echoing this sentiment, Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra, in an interview with National Television of Cambodia, affirmed that Cambodia's selection as host underscores the confidence placed in the nation by the international community, including co-organiser Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD).
"The fact that Cambodia was entrusted with hosting this summit signifies three things: first, our nation's peace and stability; second, the capable leadership of our royal government; and third, Cambodia's track record of dedicated and effective organisation," H.E. Minister emphasised. He further noted that Cambodia, under former Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and the current leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, has undergone a significant transformation, with substantial progress made and a notable improvement in the capacity of its human resources, including ministry officials.
This marks the second time Cambodia has hosted the Asia Media Summit, following a successful event in Siem Reap in 2019.
