Cambodia Holds Historic National Assembly-Senate Congress

Phnom Penh: The two-day joint Congress between the National Assembly (NA) and the Senate commenced this morning at the NA Palace in Phnom Penh, chaired by Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen. Present at the event were NA President Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, alongside senators, lawmakers, members of the Supreme Consultation and Recommendation Council, and representatives of political parties at the NA. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the congress addresses social protection systems, the informal economy, and agriculture, marking it as an unprecedented event in Cambodia's legislative history. The primary goal is to provide a platform for discussing the Royal Government of Cambodia's achievements and delving into the identified key topics. The congress was organized at the request of Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, reflecting the democratic process and the government's responsibility to t he Cambodian people, who elected the 7th legislature on July 23, 2023. Cambodian law stipulates that a congress by the NA and Senate is convened as necessary or to resolve national issues, including those related to independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
