The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) has officially launched a comprehensive map detailing cashew growing areas throughout the country. This initiative aims to boost the cashew industry and promote sustainable agriculture practices. The map outlined that the cashew plantations are in the provinces of Kampong Thom, Kratie, Stung Treng, Siem Reap, Kampong Cham, Oddar Meanchey, Mondulkiri, Rattanakiri, Preah Vihear, Thbong Khmum and Kampong Chhnang. The map is based on the potential and value added to the cashew crop, H.E. Touch Bun Hour, MAFF Secretary of State, said in the launching ceremony held on Oct. 25. The map will provide invaluable information, including precise locations of cashew plantations, soil quality assessments, and climate data, for farmers, investors, and policymakers he added. 'Stakeholders can make informed decisions regarding land use, crop management, and market access,' he said. The launch of the cashew growing area map is part of the government's broader eff orts to modernise agriculture and promote sustainable practices. With the map, both development partners and companies working in the cashew sector will be able to have new policies or strategies for investment, said Mr. Uon Silot, President of the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia. 'The map will increase confidence of local and international investors to invest on cashew nut production locally, boosting processing and finished product exports,' he said.
