Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has issued a directive to the Cambodian Joint Border Committee (JBC), emphasizing the country’s commitment to resolving border disputes with Thailand through peaceful means and international law.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in a social media post, the Prime Minister instructed the Cambodian JBC to urgently convene a meeting with its Thai counterpart to address ongoing border issues. The directive also calls for continued efforts in boundary demarcation and the planting of border markers between the two countries.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister advised the Cambodian JBC to include in the meeting agenda a proposal to present the disputes surrounding Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Moan Tauch Temple, Ta Krabei Temple, and the Mom Bei area before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Citing recent tensions at the Mom Bei area, Ta Moan Thom, and Ta Moan Toch Temples, Samdech Thipadei noted that actions by a small group of extremist elements have heightened nationalist sentiments in both nations, posing a risk of renewed confrontation. He expressed optimism that both sides would work collaboratively to reach a peaceful resolution, including technical efforts on boundary demarcation and marker placement in the disputed areas.
The Prime Minister reiterated that while Cambodia is committed to resolving border issues through peaceful means and international law, the Kingdom reserves the right to defend its territorial integrity by any necessary means, including military action, should there be any attempt to violate its sovereignty through aggression.
