Cambodia Postpones National High School Exam to Aug. 27-29 Due to Border Tensions

Phnom penh: The national high school examination for the 2024-2025 academic year, originally scheduled for Aug. 17-19, has been postponed to Aug. 27-29. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) announced the updated schedule this evening following a review meeting on the education situation in provinces bordering Thailand. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of MoEYS.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the ministry has stated that students in the provinces of Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear, affected by ongoing military aggression from Thailand, may take their exams in their home provinces or relocate to other provinces if displaced. The adjustment aims to accommodate the challenging conditions faced by students in these regions.

The announcement has sparked discussions on social media, particularly on H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron's Facebook page. Many users have suggested that candidates in the affected provinces be automatically passed, expressing concerns over their ability to concentrate under the current stressful circumstances.

As of now, the total number of high school candidates for 2025 has not been released. In the previous year, 106,351 candidates, representing 79 percent of the total 130,000, passed the national exam. The results included 2,216 students achieving grade A, 9,701 securing a B, 22,675 obtaining a C, 36,683 earning a D, and 35,076 receiving an E.
