Cambodia-Thailand Border Dispute: OIF Secretary-General Urges Respect for ICJ Rulings of 1962 and 2013

Phnom penh: Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), H.E. Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo, has reiterated the importance of respecting international law and called on Cambodia and Thailand to adhere to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) decisions of 1962 and 2013 regarding their long-standing border dispute.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Ms. Mushikiwabo welcomed the agreement reached between Cambodia and Thailand for an "immediate and unconditional" ceasefire and urged both sides to continue working toward a peaceful resolution. In her statement, she congratulated all stakeholders for swiftly resuming dialogue, highlighting their commitment to peace and the necessary spirit of cooperation for regional stability.

The Secretary-General further called on both nations to fully implement the ceasefire agreement, emphasizing its importance as a critical step toward achieving sustainable peace in the region. She also expressed her solidarity with Cambodia, which is set to host the 20th Summit of La Francophonie in 2026, noting the Kingdom's role in promoting peace and cooperation within the Francophone community.

The International Organisation of La Francophonie consists of 93 member states and governments, including 56 full members, 5 associate members, and 32 observers.
