Cambodia to Hold Traditional Khmer MMA Event in October Every Year

Cambodia will host traditional Khmer mixed martial arts championship in October every year, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet announced at the official opening ceremony of the 2nd Asian Mixed Martial Arts (AMMA) Championship at the National Olympic Stadium here this evening. The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia said that the planned event is aimed to give martial arts professionals the opportunity to compete and showcase Khmer mixed martial arts to the public, both nationally and globally. All forms of traditional Khmer martial arts, including Bokator, Kun Kham, Kla Krap, Sra-nge Pen, Kun Dambang, will be presented. 'Cambodia has a wide variety of martial arts, not just a few,' he said. 'It (Traditional Khmer MMA event) is also a great opportunity for Cambodians to conduct research and present [their traditional martial arts] to the public.' Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet asked the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to participate in large numbers, while foreigners are also welcome to join the competi tion, but they must know Khmer martial arts.
