Cambodia and the United Nations have reaffirmed their essential partnership to enhance international peace and security through supporting Cambodia's peacekeeping capabilities. The reaffirmation was made during a courtesy meeting here early this week between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. SOK Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Chairman of the National Coordination Committee for United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, and H.E. Atul Khare, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support. According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued this evening, during the call, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister highlighted Cambodia's expanding role in peacekeeping operations and strong commitment to develop close cooperation through the UN Triangular Partnership Programme and other new missions under the UN framework. Cambodia shared appreciation regarding the two other dimensions of the peacekeeping operations including Green Peacekeeping and Business Seminar, he underlined. For his part, the UN under-secretary-general expressed deep appreciation for Cambodia's significant contributions to the UN peacekeeping missions. He also outlined areas of UN-Cambodia cooperation in the field of peacekeeping operations, in particular Triangular Partnership Programme with Japan and the Republic of Korea early next year.
