Phnom penh: Cambodia's Senior Minister H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith today informed Malaysian Ambassador Shaharuddin bin Onn on the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC)'s stringent efforts and significant successes in combating online scam operations nationwide. The update came during a courtesy call and working meeting held here this morning between the two officials.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Senior Minister, who serves as Head of the Secretariat of the Ad Hoc Commission for Combating Online Scams, highlighted Cambodia's unwavering commitment to dismantling these illicit operations. He detailed a series of decisive enforcement actions that have led to the disruption of numerous scam networks across both Phnom Penh and various provinces.
He also sought Malaysia's enhanced cooperation, particularly given its current ASEAN Chairmanship, to bolster regional collaboration against technology-enabled scams. In response, Ambassador Shaharuddin bin Onn commended the RGC's resolve and efforts in tackling online scams, expressing gratitude for Cambodia's past assistance in rescuing Malaysian citizens involved in such schemes.
He reaffirmed the Malaysian government's and its embassy's ongoing support and cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia on this critical issue. Both parties underscored the vital role of international cooperation in combating online scams and discussed further steps to strengthen collaboration between the above-mentioned Secretariat and the Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
