Phnom penh: The Ministry of National Defence, represented by H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, emphasized the ongoing calmness along the border with Thailand, particularly in Military Regions 4 and 5, which encompass Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata highlighted that since the ceasefire began at midnight on July 28, there have been gradual positive developments through bilateral discussions between the two nations. She noted the significance of the Extraordinary Meetings of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee on August 7, 2025, and the Regional Border Committee on August 16, 2025. These meetings led to an agreement in principle to form a Coordinating Group to improve communication at all levels, including between commanders, border liaison working groups, standing forces, and operational units along the Cambodia-Thailand border. The aim is to peacefully resolve issues and prevent clashes.
H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata stressed the importance of both countries continuing to foster positive momentum towards peace and stability, to restore normal relations and bring benefits to the peoples of both nations.
In relation to the 18 Cambodian personnel detained in Thailand since July 29, 2025, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata reiterated Cambodia's demand for their immediate release, highlighting the anticipation of their families who await their return.
