Sofia: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cambodia to Bulgaria, H.E. Dr. Chea Chanboribo, held a meeting with Mr. Maxim Behar, Founder and CEO of M3 Communications Group, Inc., at the Cambodian Embassy in Sofia. The discussions focused on enhancing the bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and Bulgaria, with particular emphasis on trade, investment, education, and tourism.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Ambassador Chanboribo presented his strategic vision to establish a Cambodia-Bulgaria Chamber of Commerce during his tenure. He emphasized the necessity of fostering direct dialogue between the business communities of both nations, acknowledging the current modest trade volume but identifying substantial growth potential. He highlighted the importance of foundational bilateral agreements to facilitate greater business engagement.
Both Ambassador Chanboribo and Mr. Behar recognized the complementary roles their countries could play, with Bulgaria serving as Cambodia's gateway to Europe and the EU, and Cambodia acting as Bulgaria's bridge to Asia and ASEAN. Mr. Behar pointed out the importance of a robust economic framework for meaningful bilateral trade and investment, underlining Bulgaria's strategic geographical position and its business-friendly environment.
Mr. Behar also proposed enhancing public awareness and information dissemination to deepen mutual understanding between the peoples of the two nations. He expressed his commitment to assist in establishing the bilateral chamber of commerce and revealed plans to visit Cambodia to understand its market better and engage with officials from various Cambodian ministries for closer economic collaboration.
Ambassador Chanboribo highlighted Cambodia's development over the past two decades and discussed potential areas for enhanced tourism cooperation. A significant challenge identified was the difficulty faced by Cambodian tourists in obtaining Bulgarian visas due to the absence of a Bulgarian embassy in Phnom Penh. Mr. Behar proposed appointing an Honorary Consul in Phnom Penh as a pragmatic solution.
The Ambassador further emphasized Cambodia's rich tourism potential, noting the upcoming launch of the Techo International Airport in Phnom Penh, expected to facilitate direct flights between Cambodia and Europe, boosting tourism. The dialogue also explored historical and cultural commonalities between the nations, with Mr. Behar proposing academic cooperation with Cambodian universities.
Both parties agreed to reconvene soon to discuss organizing a high-level meeting involving various Bulgarian and Cambodian ministries to advance these initiatives.
