Sofia: H.E. Dr. CHEA Chanboribo, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Bulgaria, recently met with H.E. Mr. Alexios Marios Liberopoulos, Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic of Greece to Bulgaria, to discuss potential avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation. The meeting, which took place in Sofia on Sept. 10, focused on strengthening ties under the ASEAN-EU strategic partnership.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Ambassador CHEA Chanboribo expressed his honour in representing Cambodia to Greece and highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in tourism and trade. He suggested a student exchange programme to promote cultural and educational enrichment and proposed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise tourism collaboration.
Ambassador Liberopoulos, in response, acknowledged the robust relations between Bulgaria and Greece, citing significant Greek business investments and a rise in tourism to Greece. He welcomed the proposals for joint tourism initiatives and expressed his willingness to assist with matters related to the Greek Ministry of Tourism.
The discussion also covered regional issues, including the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict. Ambassador Liberopoulos confirmed that the Greek Embassy's diplomatic staff in Bangkok are informed about the situation. Ambassador CHEA Chanboribo reiterated Cambodia's preference for resolving disputes through legal channels and expressed regret over Thailand's failure to honour the ceasefire agreement, highlighting the ongoing conflict's impact on cultural heritage sites.
The meeting concluded with a gesture of goodwill, as Ambassador CHEA Chanboribo presented Ambassador Liberopoulos with traditional Cambodian gifts, symbolising the commitment to fostering friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Greece.
