Cambodian and Malaysian Diplomats Explore Enhanced Bilateral Cooperation in Sofia

Sofia: H.E. Dr. Chea Chanboribo, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the Republic of Bulgaria, recently met with H.E. Peter Kouroumbashev, Honorary Consul of Malaysia to Bulgaria, at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Sofia. The primary focus of their discussions was the enhancement of Cambodia-Bulgaria bilateral relations through shared educational and cultural initiatives.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, both diplomats exchanged perspectives on the current state of relations between Cambodia and Bulgaria. They discussed opportunities to reinforce cooperation in various sectors, including trade, tourism, and education. The Cambodian ambassador emphasized the country's dedication to strengthening ties with Bulgaria, proposing increased collaborative efforts.

H.E. Kouroumbashev suggested the creation of a joint platform involving embassies and honorary consulates from ASEAN member states, such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, to promote collaboration on regional issues. He proposed regular monthly meetings to enhance cooperation and highlighted Bulgaria's potential to engage more actively with Southeast Asia.

The meeting also addressed Malaysia-Bulgaria relations, with H.E. Kouroumbashev highlighting the role of the Malaysian Embassy in Bucharest, which serves multiple countries including Bulgaria. He expressed optimism that Bulgaria's foreign policy will increasingly focus on Asia, fostering closer ties with nations like Cambodia and Malaysia.

Both parties expressed a commitment to promoting educational and cultural exchanges, including student and university partnerships, during Ambassador Chea Chanboribo's tenure in Bulgaria. The ambassador emphasized the importance of fostering mutual understanding between Cambodian and Bulgarian youth through media, information sharing, and tourism.
