Cambodian Labour Officials Deployed at Border to Welcome Returning Migrant Workers from Thailand

Phnom Penh: As of 8:00 a.m. today, officials from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MoLVT) have been stationed at various Cambodia-Thailand border checkpoints to welcome Cambodian citizens and migrant workers returning from Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the deployment aims to provide direct assistance and information to the returnees, particularly regarding registration for new job opportunities and enrollment in free technical and vocational training programmes. These efforts are part of the Royal Government’s broader initiative to reintegrate returning workers into the national labour market.

To support this mission, the Ministry has dispatched several Mobile Job Centres to key border areas. These mobile units are equipped to assist with on-site registration for employment and vocational training, ensuring that returnees can access immediate opportunities.

In preparation for the influx of workers, the MoLVT has worked in coordination with various national institutions, including the National Employment Agency (NEA), the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system, and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). Officials from both national and sub-national levels are actively engaged on the ground to facilitate this process.

Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, H.E. Heng Sour, stated on June 15 that the Ministry has sufficient resources and mechanisms in place to provide meaningful employment opportunities to the returning workers. He emphasised that in addition to job placements, comprehensive vocational training programs are available across the country, catering to both general citizens and returning migrants.

According to the Ministry’s latest announcement, as of June 16, 2025, Cambodia currently offers more than 230,000 job vacancies nationwide, presenting a significant opportunity for those seeking employment following their return from abroad.
