Poipet: A palpable sense of joy and relief filled the Poipet International Border Checkpoint on June 19 afternoon, as numerous Cambodian migrant workers returned home. Their heartfelt gratitude was directed at the Royal Government of Cambodia, which has swiftly provided job opportunities and vocational training programmes upon their arrival.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, by 4:00 p.m. on June 19, officials from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, along with representatives from the National Employment Agency (NEA), the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), the provincial labour department, and other relevant units, were actively assisting the returnees at the Poipet checkpoint. These teams offered comprehensive information on available job placements, technical and vocational training opportunities, and social security benefits, specifically targeting workers returning from Thailand.
"I am truly thankful to the Royal Government for its care," shared Mr. Phal Lin, one of the returnees, visibly emotional. "I never expected that the moment I returned home, I would immediately be given the opportunity to choose a job or enroll in a skills training programme. Before coming back, I was constantly worried about being unemployed-but now, I feel hopeful again."
Similarly, Ms. Sokha, 35, who had spent five years working in Thailand's construction sector, expressed her excitement with a smile. "I want to learn sewing because I see there's high demand for it near my home. Now that the government is offering this opportunity, I'm really happy. I no longer worry about having to return to Thailand."
H.E. Oum Reatrey, Governor of Banteay Meanchey province, emphasised the Royal Government's commitment. "Under the wise leadership of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, the Royal Government has always prioritised the well-being of its citizens, especially our workers."
"We are fully prepared to provide job-matching services, training, and support to ensure that our returning compatriots can secure decent employment and improve their livelihoods here at home," he added.
The Governor further affirmed that local authorities and all relevant officials at the Poipet International Border will continue their diligent efforts to ensure returning Cambodian workers receive comprehensive support. This includes assistance with registration, information provision, transportation, employment placement, and tailored skills training designed to meet their individual needs.
The Royal Government's proactive approach in offering employment and training to returning migrant workers underscores its deep commitment to improving citizens' welfare and advancing human resource development. This initiative stands as a clear symbol of Cambodia's progress toward enhancing the quality of life and economic resilience for all its people.
