Cambodia: Cambodia's National Assembly today issued a strong condemnation of what it describes as a "blatant military incursion" by Thai armed forces, asserting that the actions infringe upon Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the National Assembly expressed "deep regret" over an incident along the Cambodia-Thailand border earlier this morning. The statement alleges that Thai armed forces launched a "premeditated and intentional attack" on Cambodian positions in border areas, including Tamone Thom Temple, Ta Krabey Temple, the Mom Bey area, and other locations in Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces.
The Cambodian National Assembly unequivocally condemned these actions as "serious violations of international law," stating that they breach fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and the ASEAN Charter, thereby undermining efforts to foster a peaceful ASEAN community.
The National Assembly voiced its full support for Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, in his capacity as President of the Senate, alongside the Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, in responding to the alleged Thai incursion.
The statement affirmed Cambodia's "legitimate right to self-defence" in protecting its sovereignty, territorial integrity, the lives of its people, and the nation's supreme interests.
Furthermore, the National Assembly declared its support for Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet's decision to dispatch a letter to the United Nations Security Council, requesting an emergency meeting to seek international intervention to halt the alleged Thai armed incursion into Cambodian sovereign territory.
In an appeal to its citizens, the National Assembly urged all Cambodians to "maintain unity, continue their daily activities as usual, and place their trust in the Royal Government of Cambodia and the bravery of the Cambodian armed forces currently defending the nation's territorial integrity on the frontlines."
The statement concluded by expressing a "firm belief that justice based on international law will bring lasting peace," aligning with the peace leadership vision of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.
The National Assembly also noted that the Royal Government of Cambodia had already referred disputes in the Mom Bey area, Tamone Thom Temple, Tamone Toch Temple, and Ta Krabey Temple to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on June 15, 2025.
