Cambodian Permanent Representative: Restraint Is Strength, But Must Not Be Mistaken for Acquiescence

Geneva: Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the United Nations in Geneva H.E. Dara In delivered a statement at the General Debate during the 76th session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme (ExCom) on Oct. 8 stressing that restraint is strength, but it must not be mistaken for acquiescence.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Dara In emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced approach in international diplomacy. He urged member states to recognize that while Cambodia practices restraint, it should not be interpreted as agreement or submission to external pressures. The representative’s statement highlights Cambodia’s stance on maintaining its sovereignty and independence in the face of international challenges.

H.E. Dara In’s address at the United Nations aligns with Cambodia’s broader diplomatic strategy, which focuses on asserting its position while engaging in constructive dialogue with other nations. The statement serves as a reminder for the international community to carefully consider the implications of misinterpreting diplomatic restraint as acquiescence.
