Cambodian PM Advocates Development as Primary Border Protection Strategy

Rattanakiri: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet stated this morning that physical barriers cannot truly safeguard national borders-development is the most effective form of protection. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for new school buildings and other educational achievements in Banlung city, Rattanakiri province, the Premier emphasised that territorial protection cannot rely on fences alone. Instead, he said, it requires the development of infrastructure and the improvement of livelihoods for those living along the border.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Prime Minister stressed that improving livelihoods and fostering development in border areas are key pillars of a strong national defence. He highlighted Rattanakiri province as a prime example of this principle in action. Although Rattanakiri is one of the provinces farthest from Phnom Penh, it has seen significant progress and prosperity over the past three decades-especially since the end of civil war and the establishment of long-term peace in Cambodia.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Royal Government's commitment to further promoting development in border areas such as Rattanakiri through continued investment in infrastructure and public services. Over the past 20 years, Rattanakiri has evolved from an underdeveloped region into a thriving province. The government, Samdech Thipadei added, will continue working tirelessly to ensure sustained growth and improved quality of life for its residents.
