Cambodian PM Calls for Expansion of EV Charging Stations

Pursat: Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet this morning called on all relevant stakeholders to expand the country's network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new Ford production line and sub-assembly plant in Pursat province, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted the steady rise in electric vehicle usage across Cambodia and emphasised the need to support this growth by increasing access to charging infrastructure.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Cambodian Premier highlighted the disparity in the availability of EV charging stations between urban areas and national roads. Using Google Maps, he pointed out that while numerous charging stations are present in cities, the infrastructure remains sparse along national highways. He urged the Ministry of Mines and Energy to investigate the feasibility of establishing more charging stations to further encourage electric vehicle adoption.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport reports that Cambodia registered a total of 2,253 electric vehicles in 2024, marking a significant 620 percent increase compared to the 313 EVs registered in 2023. This surge underscores the importance of developing a comprehensive network of charging stations to support the growing number of electric vehicles on the country's roads.
