Cambodian Senate President Reacts to Thai Report on Arrest Threats

Phnom penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, has responded to a recent report in a Thai newspaper alleging that the acting Prime Minister of Thailand declared Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet would be immediately arrested if they entered Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo Hun Sen addressed the situation in a Facebook post, expressing his concerns over the alleged statement made by the acting Thai Prime Minister. He suggested that if the newspaper's publication accurately reflected the acting Prime Minister's remarks, it would indicate a lack of understanding of customary law and diplomatic protocol.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen further articulated that if Thailand were to arrest Cambodian leaders, Cambodia could similarly arrest certain Thai leaders accused of invading and killing Cambodian citizens. He emphasized that such actions would constitute a violation of customary law by the aggressors.

Posing a critical question in his post, Samdech Techo Hun Sen asked whether these remarks were an effort to build trust and improve relations between the two nations, or if they were a provocation that could potentially reignite conflict after the previously established ceasefire agreement.
