Phnom penh: Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) has sent a letter to the Swedish Institute for Human Rights, requesting the latter to urge the Swedish Government to review Gripen (E/F) fighter jet sale to Thailand to uphold human rights principles.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the letter, dated Aug. 28, outlines concerns regarding the potential implications of the fighter jet sale on human rights in the region. The CHRC emphasizes the importance of considering human rights impacts in international military agreements and calls for thorough evaluation before proceeding with such sales.
The letter seeks the Swedish Institute for Human Rights to play a proactive role in ensuring that the Swedish Government aligns its military export policies with global human rights standards. The CHRC believes that this step is crucial in maintaining Sweden's commitment to promoting and safeguarding human rights on an international scale.
