SEOUL, "Uncle Samsik," one of the most highly anticipated Disney+ original Korean series, is set to premiere on May 15, the company said Tuesday. The series marks the television debut of the critically acclaimed actor Song Kang-ho, who delivered an iconic performance in the Oscar-winning film "Parasite." Set in the 1960s, the period drama explores the relationship between a man known as Uncle Samsik (played by Song), dedicated to providing three meals a day for his family, and Kim San (played by Byun Yo-han), a young elite with aspirations to reshape the nation's future. A poster unveiled Tuesday depicts Song with a big smile as he balances a pack of savory snacks in one hand and a fresh catch in the other, with the tagline "You can open up when you feel full." The 16-part series is helmed by screenwriter and director Shin Yeon-shick who wrote the movie scenarios of "Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet" (2016) and "Cobweb" (2023). Source: Yonhap News Agency
