SEOUL, A lawmaker of the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) said Tuesday that it would not be a bad idea for Lee Jae-myung to serve another term as party chairman, following the party's resounding victory in last week's parliamentary elections. Rep. Jung Sung-ho, a four-term lawmaker and close aide to Lee, made the remark during a radio interview, saying having Lee as leader again would help strengthen unity in the party. Lee was elected DP chairman in August 2022 for a two-year term. Calls have risen within the party for Lee to serve another term as leader after the party won a resounding victory in last week's general elections by sweeping 175 seats in the 300-member National Assembly. "I don't think it is a bad card," Jung said of the possibility of Lee serving another term. DP lawmaker-elect Park Jie-won has previously said Lee should hold the position for two consecutive terms, as there is no party rule prohibiting such a move. Source: Yonhap News Agency
