Phnom Penh: Cambodia yesterday grabbed five more medals, including one gold, two silver, and two bronze, thus bringing the country’s medal tally to eight, at the Southeast Asian and Invitation Wrestling Championship held in Singapore on May 10-12.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the five medalists include Mr. Heng Vuthy, who won a gold medal in Men’s Freestyle 90kg, Mr. Heng Ratha obtained a silver medal in Men’s Freestyle 92kg, Mr. Keo Sopheak a silver in Men’s Freestyle 79kg and a bronze in Men’s Greco Romance 82kg, and Ms. Chea Kanha a silver in Women’s Freestyle 72kg events.
On May 11, Cambodia grabbed three medals – one silver and two bronze. The silver winner is Mr. Soeurn Sophors in Men’s Freestyle 61kg, while the bronze medalists are Mr. Chhuon Chheang in Men’s Freestyle 74kg, and Mr. Yun Bunna in Men’s Freestyle 70kg categories, added the source.
According to Wrestling Federation of Cambodia (WFC), Cambodia sent 12 wrestlers: nine male and three female, to compete in the international tournament. The participation was made possible through the support of Mr. Casey Barnett, Vice President of the WFC and Director of the CamEd Institute. The aim was to test and improve the athletes’ performance ahead of the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand this December.
The Cambodian delegation consisted of 17 members, including international referees, coaching staff, and athletes.
