Phnom Penh: With almost 900 cases of fake news detected in the first quarter of 2025, the Ministry of Information accelerates more awareness raising of the fallouts of fake news, especially among youth. The record of 884 fake news cases was unveiled recently by the ministry’s Anti-Fake News Commission, with its Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson H.E. Tep Asnarith linking the rise to the increasing use of social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Telegram, and Instagram.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) globally and Cambodia-wide also contributes to the increase of fake news, he added. With the trend, the Ministry of Information, through its Say No to Fake News campaign, is focusing on anti-fake news awareness building among students and youth-who are the big users of social media and AI-at schools and communities in the capital and provinces of Cambodia.
The campaign disseminates knowledge on factual information, ethical reporting, and the use of reliable sources and encourages users as well as content creators for social media to join hands in fighting fake news.
