Foreign ministers’ talks with Brazil called off on Brazil’s end: Seoul official

The foreign ministers' talks planned for later this week between South Korea and Brazil have been canceled due to circumstances on Brazil's side, Seoul officials said Monday. The foreign ministry had announced that Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul would hold talks with his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, on Wednesday on the occasion of Vieira's visit to South Korea. "We've been informed that there has been a regional situation that the (Brazilian) minister must attend to, and that unfortunately he became unable to come," a foreign ministry official said. The ministry said earlier that Cho and Vieira were also to sign a preliminary agreement on a working holiday program, under which young South Koreans can work in Brazil and young Brazilians can work in South Korea. Brazil established diplomatic relations with South Korea in 1959, becoming the first Latin American country to do so. Source: Yonhap News Agency
