Germany Sustains Support in Advancing Cambodia’s Quality Infrastructure

Phnom Penh: Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation H.E. Hem Vanndy received a delegation from Germany's National Metrology Institute (PTB) to strengthen cooperation on Cambodia's quality infrastructure, a foundation for industrial growth and international trade.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Minister expressed gratitude to PTB and the German federal government for their ongoing support since 2018, particularly in enhancing the National Metrology Centre (NMC). The Minister emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) to improve metrology in Cambodia through lab accreditation, institutional reform, and innovative service delivery models, aiming to extend these services to rural areas. He highlighted the necessity of these advancements as Cambodia's factories expand and industrialization progresses.

Representing PTB, Mr. Gidon Windecker acknowledged Cambodia's dedication to technology and innovation, noting Germany's significant role as the largest bilateral donor to Cambodia's quality infrastructure. He remarked on the importance of reliable and internationally recognized standards for Cambodia's economic development, particularly as the country prepares for graduation from the least developed countries (LDC) category.

Both parties agreed to work towards achieving further milestones, including full international recognition of Cambodia's measurement system and the development of a National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) Policy to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and enhance regional and global integration.
