I-ASRAMA, MELAKA’S FIRST CLQ COMPLETED IN AYER KEROH

MELAKA, The first Centralised Labour Quarters (CLQ) in Melaka, known as i-Asrama, has been completed in Eco Park Ayer Keroh. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the facility, equipped with various basic amenities, received its Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) on June 7, with the apartment-style worker dormitory able to accommodate 3,264 foreign workers, particularly in Melaka Tengah. The i-Asrama Eco Park consists of two nine-storey dormitory blocks with 272 units, featuring sustainable development concepts and facial recognition technology. 'This initiative supports the state government's plan to build 40 CLQs across the state to accommodate foreign workers. 'The construction of CLQs is a long-term solution to ensure controlled, conducive, safe, clean and systematic living environments,' he told reporters after officiating the opening of the i-Asrama @ Ayer Keroh CLQ here today. The i-Asrama CLQ is also the first in Malaysia to receive Green Building Certification: Gold Project G reenRE. Ab Rauf said that building more CLQs in the future is a proactive measure to support private sector development in the high-tech industrial sector, attracting more investors and boosting the investment ecosystem in the state. Meanwhile, he said the state government will cease issuing Temporary Labour Quarters (TLQ) certificates by 2026, as all foreign workers will need to be housed in CLQs built in compliance with Act 446. 'I remind companies or developers still using worker dormitories in residential areas or shop houses under TLQ approvals that this is only a temporary alternative before moving foreign workers to CLQs. 'Although the state government urged the relocation to well-facilitated areas by the end of April this year, many employers were unprepared. Therefore, we have postponed the relocation to early 2025,' he added. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
