With the PGA Tour's playoffs hitting their midway point this week, South Korean veteran Im Sung-jae will chase his sixth straight ticket to the lucrative finale. Im will be one of three South Koreans in action for the BMW Championship, which tees off at Castle Pines Golf Club, outside Denver, on Thursday (local time). (Yonhap) Im, An Byeong-hun and Kim Si-woo survived the first leg of the playoffs last week, the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, by staying inside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup points standings. The top 30 after this week will qualify for next week's Tour Ch ampionship in Atlanta, where the winner will take home US$25 million. Im is the top-ranked South Korean at No. 10, followed by An at No. 15 and Kim at No. 44. Barring disastrous rounds this week, Im and An should be safe bets to play at the Tour Championship. Under the current playoff format, which dates to 2007, Im owns the record for the longest consecutive appearance and most total appearances at the Tour Championship by a South Korean player with five. An, on the other hand, has never played at a Tour Championship. (Yonhap) Kim must finish alone in 17th place this week to have a shot at crack ing the top 30. He previously played at the 2016 and 2023 Tour Championships. In addition to getting into the Tour Championship, where the golfers rank in the FedEx Cup list will also be crucial because of the unique "starting strokes" system. The FedEx Cup points leader heading into the finale will begin the Tour Championship at 10-under, and the No. 2 player will start at eight-under, and so forth. Those ranked 26th to 30th will start at even par. The par-72 Castle Pines Golf Club will be the longest course in PGA Tour history at 8,130 yards. But it will play much shorter than the official yardage because it sits 6,200 feet above sea level. Balls will fly through the thin air of Colorado, with tee shots expected to travel by as many as 30 extra yards.
