Indonesian Ambassador Commends Cambodia’s Media Management and Anti-Fake News Efforts

Siem reap: Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Santo Darmosumarto, lauded Cambodia's effective management of its information and media sector, citing the orderly and proactive initiatives evident in local media coverage. Ambassador Darmosumarto's commendation came during a bilateral meeting with Cambodia's Minister of Information, H.E. Neth Pheaktra, held on the sidelines of the 20th Asia Media Summit in Siem Reap city this afternoon.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Indonesian envoy highlighted the Ministry of Information's dynamic efforts in strengthening Cambodia's media landscape, characterising these developments as positive contributions to the nation's well-regulated media environment. Ambassador Darmosumarto also congratulated the Ministry for successfully hosting the Asia Media Summit in both 2019 and 2025, underscoring Cambodia's growing role in fostering regional dialogue and media development.

Discussions also focused on bolstering cooperation between the Ministry of Information of Cambodia and its Indonesian counterpart. The Ambassador noted that Cambodia's Ministry of Information has prepared a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing bilateral media collaboration.

Beyond media management, Ambassador Darmosumarto praised the advancements of Cambodia's Islamic community, calling Cambodia a model for religious and ethnic harmony regionally and globally. He suggested it is a model the world should emulate to cultivate peace and coexistence among diverse communities.

The Indonesian Ambassador expressed interest in future cooperation to promote awareness of Cambodia's Islamic community, reflecting Indonesia's commitment to supporting initiatives that encourage tolerance and understanding. Ambassador Darmosumarto also voiced his support for Cambodia's "Say No to Fake News" campaign, a topic Minister Neth Pheaktra had previously raised during the ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) Meeting in Indonesia.

Minister Neth Pheaktra affirmed that the campaign is garnering support from ASEAN member states and beyond. Its objective is to raise public awareness about the dangers of fake news and encourage citizens to meticulously verify information to avoid falling victim to disinformation.
