KBO’s Eagles sign ex-MLB pitcher Barria

The Hanwha Eagles announced Wednesday they have acquired former major league pitcher Jaime Barria. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) club said Barria, 27, signed for US$550,000 for the rest of the season as a replacement for Felix Pena, who was waived Monday. Barria has appeared in 134 games, including 62 starts, in the majors, all of them for the Los Angeles Angels from 2018 to 2023. He had a 22-32 record with a 4.38 ERA. He has been pitching in Triple-A for the Cleveland Guardians this year, going 1-0 with a 4.81 ERA in 13 appearances while making just one start. Pena was released after going 3-5 with a 6.27 ERA in nine starts this season, his third in the KBO. According to the Eagles, Barria is scheduled to arrive in South Korea on Thursday and then join his new team the following day. Also on Monday, Eagles manager Choi Won-ho resigned just one year after signing a three-year contract, taking the fall for the team's poor performance this season. After years of rebuilding, the Eagles entered th e 2024 campaign determined to challenge for a postseason spot. An early-season seven-game winning streak quickly gave way to extended slumps that have become all too familiar for the Eagles' fans. Despite a current three-game winning streak, the Eagles are in eighth place among the 10 clubs at 22-29-1 (wins-losses-ties). Source: Yonhap News Agency
