Leaders of Cambodia and Japan Discuss Development, Trade, and Defence Cooperation


Tokyo: During his official visit to Japan on May 30, Cambodian Prime Minister held a joint press conference with his Japanese counterpart H.E. Shigeru Ishiba, focusing on development, trade, and defence cooperation. Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet commended Japan’s contribution to overall development in Cambodia, especially human resources development and humanitarian assistance in demining activities.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Cambodia is ready to continue to contribute to solving the need for skilled labour because the employment opportunity allows Cambodian workers to gain new skills and experience useful for Cambodia’s development. Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also spoke highly of Japan’s support for the development of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port of Cambodia to become a regional port and logistics hub.



In defense cooperation, the Cambodian Prime Minister expressed his warm welcome for Japanese minesweepers JS Bungo (MST-464) and JS Etazima (MSO-306), which were the first foreign vessels to dock at Cambodia’s Ream naval base after the completion of its first-phase development in April.



The two leaders agreed to further deepen the comprehensive strategic bilateral partnership, aiming to bring about improved well-being and shared prosperity for the nations and peoples of the two countries.
