Heritage and historical buildings recognised by UNESCO in Melaka are being repaired or improved to preserve and conserve the assets in conjunction with the Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM 2024).
Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) mayor Datuk Shadan Othman said the efforts were being implemented in stages in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by UNESCO.
"The works will involve heritage and historical buildings in Banda Hilir such as Stadthuys, Kota A Famosa and Jonker Walk," he told reporters at the Melaka Heritage Festival 2023 here last night.
The event was launched by Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Rustam and attended by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Meanwhile, Shadan said the MBMB was also upgrading all public toilets in its administrative area, especially in tourist hotspots in Banda Hilir to ensure user comfort ahead of TMM 2024.
