Phnom penh: The Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) and the Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) have jointly launched a training workshop for journalists, content creators, key opinion leaders, and influencers to deepen their understanding of Cambodia's banking and financial sectors. The training is being conducted in two full-day sessions at the Shangri-La Hotel in Phnom Penh, scheduled for Aug. 1 and Aug. 15, 2025.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the first session of the workshop focused on the fundamentals of the banking and financial system, while the second session aims to cover financial literacy in greater depth. The initiative was inaugurated by H.E. Kem Kunawadh, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Information, who underscored the rapid growth and significance of the financial sector in both urban and rural areas of Cambodia.
H.E. Kem Kunawadh emphasized the critical role journalists play in disseminating accurate and trustworthy information, which is essential for raising financial awareness among clients, the public, and other stakeholders. He stated, "Journalists have a professional responsibility to present clear and truthful information, especially when it involves numbers and financial services."
The organisers of the workshop highlighted the importance of accurate media coverage in enhancing financial literacy, fostering a sound environment, and contributing to the strengthening of regulatory frameworks for the efficient and inclusive growth of the microfinance sector. Participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to gain direct insights from banking experts, noting that the training has equipped them to report on financial topics more accurately and address misinformation effectively.
