Medical professors appeal court dismissal of request to suspend medical school quota hike

Medical professors on Wednesday filed an appeal a day after a Seoul court dismissed their application to suspend the government's much-resisted hike of the nationwide medical school quota. On Tuesday, the Seoul Administrative Court dismissed the request filed by the Medical Professors Association of Korea to suspend the government's execution of the quota hike, saying that medical professors are not eligible as applicants. The court concluded that the medical professors' group does not have a direct or detailed legal interest in the expansion or distribution of medical school seats. According to legal sources, a lawyer representing the association filed an appeal against the latest court decision with the Seoul Administration Court on Wednesday. Tuesday's court decision was the first ruling made on a series of similar applications filed by the doctors' community to suspend the quota hike. Source: Yonhap News Agency
