Phnom penh: The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MoLVT) and the United Nations (UN) in Cambodia have reaffirmed their dedication to advancing decent work and social protection within the Kingdom. This commitment was solidified during a virtual meeting co-chaired by H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, and Mr. Joseph Scheuer, UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the discussion centred on the 'Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions,' an initiative designed to aid member states in accelerating economic development while prioritising national objectives. Key areas of focus include fostering green just transitions, formalising the informal economy, promoting decent work opportunities for youth, advancing gender equality, and supporting the growth of the digital economy.
A primary outcome of the meeting was the agreement to establish a technical working group dedicated to the Global Accelerator initiative. This group will coordinate collaborative efforts aimed at promoting decent work and strengthening Cambodia's social protection systems.
H.E. Heng Sour expressed his gratitude for the mutual agreement to form this working group, underlining Cambodia's readiness and commitment to collaborating closely with UN agencies, development partners, and all stakeholders. The Minister underscored the nation's resolve to achieve the goals of promoting decent work and enhancing social protection across the country.
In reply, Mr. Joseph Scheuer reiterated the UN's steadfast support for mechanisms that advance decent work and social protection, aligning these efforts with Cambodia's long-term 2050 Vision.
