NA Acting President Urges Cambodians to Join Hands to Protect Sovereignty

Preah vihear: The National Assembly Acting President, along with the Second Vice President and other senior members of parliament, visited a refugee camp in Preah Vihear province on Thursday. They offered food, water, and other supplies to thousands of people displaced by the ongoing conflict with Thailand. H.E. Cheam Yeap, the acting president, addressed the refugees at Wat Bo Pram Poan in Kulen district, emphasizing that "Cambodia is not alone" and highlighting the role of foreign allies in resolving the border clashes with Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the visit to the temple included Second Vice President H.E. Vong Sauth and the chairs of several parliamentary commissions. H.E. Cheam Yeap recounted the ancient Khmer Empire's history and the subsequent Thai invasions, underscoring the significance of the conflict. Under the guidance of Preah Vihear Governor H.E. Kim Rithy, approximately 4,500 families have been evacuated to Wat Po 5000 due to the fighting, which reached a ceasefire on Monday.

The acting president expressed gratitude towards key international figures for their roles in achieving the ceasefire. He thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his peace initiatives and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for facilitating the ceasefire agreement in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. Additionally, he acknowledged the support from China and other friendly nations, noting the involvement of the American and Chinese ambassadors in the talks.

During Thursday's ceremony, participants, including parliament members and refugees, observed a minute's silence to honor those who lost their lives in the conflict. The acting president also expressed appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices made by soldiers and police. Senior lawmakers present at the ceremony included H.E. Chheang Vun, H.E. Kep Chuktema, H.E. Suos Yara, and H.E. Nin Saphon, who represent various commissions within the National Assembly.
