Phnom penh: H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), conducted a meeting with senior executives from the U.S.-based investment firm Argentem Creek on August 4 to explore potential investment opportunities within Cambodia's financial sector.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the delegation was led by Mr. Maarten Terlouw, President and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Argentem Creek, and was welcomed at NBC's headquarters in Phnom Penh. The discussions were focused on strategic investments aimed at supporting the growth and transformation of Cambodia's financial landscape.
Argentem Creek operates under the umbrella of the Salmon Group, a fintech operator from the Philippines, which is keen on expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, identifying Cambodia as a significant market. During the discussions, Salmon Group's Executive Chairman and Co-Founder, Pavel Fedorov, presented their digital finance-driven business model and emphasized the importance of progressive regulations in enhancing financial inclusion.
H.E. Dr. Chea Serey expressed appreciation for Argentem Creek's interest in Cambodia, highlighting the nation's investor-friendly environment fostered by the Law on Investment and recent improvements in financial infrastructure. She advised potential market entrants to collaborate closely with NBC's technical teams to make well-informed decisions.
In addition, the NBC Governor extended an invitation to the delegation to visit the Preah Srey I§anavarman Museum of Economy and Money, offering them an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Cambodia's economic and monetary history.
