Newly Trained MCC Divers Deploy Artificial Reefs to Protect Marine Biodiversity

Kampot: Marine Conservation Cambodia (MCC) officials announced on May 5 that four former compressor-fishing divers have completed professional diving and rescue training and are now deploying artificial reef structures to safeguard seabed biodiversity.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, these divers previously faced significant risks due to unsafe diving practices and equipment, including decompression sickness and drowning. Now, equipped with proper training, they work daily to install artificial fish shelters, helping protect marine ecosystems from destructive bottom-trawling activities.

This initiative marks their transition from hazardous fishing to meaningful marine conservation efforts for future generations. The MCC expressed deep gratitude to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and the Asian Development Bank for enabling this impactful transformation.
